Kids Get a Crack at Fishing This Weekend
Prince George, B.C. – Hot on the heels of the Kids Can Fish event outside Canadian Tire a couple of weekends ago, area youngsters have another opportunity to give fishing a try this weekend out at Dodge Pond at Northland Motorsports Park.
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C. is putting on a Learn to Fish event tomorrow for kids aged 5 to 15 who must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. As well, you should note that there is limited space available so you have to pre-register. To do that call Landon LeDuke at 250-640-9333 or get ahold of him by email at lleduke@northlanddodge.ca
Learn to Fish is a great program that teaches fish identification and biology, rods, reels, lines and tackle, rod rigging and knot tying, casting and retrieving, safety and fishing regulations, fish handling and fishing ethics and habitats and conservation.
Organizers got the pond ready for this fun event by releasing 700 rainbow trout into the man-made water body back on July 25th ( at right, trout release photo courtesy Sean Simmons).
All equipment and tackle will be provided for Saturday’s event and no fishing license is required. There is no charge, although donations will gladly be accepted. There is a morning session from 10 am to noon, with lunch provided from noon to 12:30. The afternoon session starts with lunch from 12:30 to 1pm, followed by the fishing instruction from 1 to 3pm.
Dodge Pond is located in the Northland Motorsports Park on Raceway Road off Chief Lake Road.
