Info Flow from Likely Winding Down
Likely, B.C.- While the work continues at Mt.Polley, the daily updates from the Provincial Government will be winding down.
“It’s at the point where the information is repetitive” says Cariboo Regional District Chair Al Richmond “We are getting the same information daily”. That “same information” is that the water samples continue to meet provincial and federal drinking water guidelines.
That’s not to say the crisis is over, Richmond says all eyes remain on the plug of sediment that is blocking the natural outflow from Polley Lake.
Last night’s information meeting at the Likely Community Hall lasted about 2 hours. Richmond says some residents are starting to feel reassured that water quality is o.k. but others continue to express a mistrust of the results. “It’s what one might expect when you put people in a difficult situation, it is stressful.” But Richmond says the Medical Health Officer is confident the water is safe for both humans and aquatic life.
While daily updates will be discontinued, investigations and regular water sampling and testing will carry on.
