Prince George, B.C. – The Tommy Lakes fire continues to grow.
Jill Kelsh with the Prince George Fire Centre says the lightning caused blaze has grown from 500 hectares last night to around 800 hectares today.
"The Evacuation Alert remains in place. It's still not threatening any of the oil and gas infrastructure but we do have structural protection set up and are very actively monitoring it."
Located three and a half hours north of Fort St. John and 60 km northeast of Pink Mountain, the Evacuation Alert is affecting 10 people says Kelsh.
She says today's hot and dry conditions has also sparked 13 new fires in the region today, the largest 250 hectares in size, and located in Pine Le Moray Provincial Park near Mackenzie.
As for the outlook Kelsh says they are hoping to see cooler temperatures minus an increase in winds which she says is usually what happens when temperatures dip.
