Terrace, B.C. – Federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair spoke to reporters this morning after arriving for a tour of B.C.'s Northwest today.

"I've always understood the importance of this riding and it's great to be here. This is the nexus, ground zero for so many environmental, financial, and social issues across the country," says Mulcair.

"It's really where the future of our development is going to take place and we're either going to get it right or we're going to continue to have the types of problems we've had under the Conservative government."

Mulcair says the federal government has "gutted environmental legislation from the Fisheries Act to the Species at Risk Act," and says there's been huge problems because the government is not enforcing legislation.

"And we saw with the spill just a couple of weeks ago how that translates in the real world."

During his visit Mulcair has scheduled meetings with the Haisla Leadership, representatives from the District of Kitimat, the band council in Hartley Bay and will be in Terrace for a community reception tonight.

Any plan for Prince George? 2 decades ego when I saw his performance in Quebec politics, I wondered why NDP will not appoint him as its leader.

Gee I wonder if Mr. Tom (angry at everything) Mulclair will be coming to Prince George?

He could send Nathan the snake oil salesman here ahead of time to get everyone mad and set the stage for Mulclair to visit us too and scorn everything and everybody in sight.

We’ve all been just too happy lately, and every happy person SURELY needs a little doom and gloom in their lives!

So Mr. Mulclair…PLEASE come to Prince George….we are all just way too happy for our own good.

Interesting post gimmeabreak. It has been noted time and time again that those who can’t respond validly to someone else’s opinion always go for the personal insult, the ad hominem attack. All it really shows is the weakness of their own position, because if they could make it sound credible they would do so. Since you attack and insult instead of debate, It is really obvious that is true in your case.

After the next Federal election, he’ll be another footnote in the NDP’s history book.

The only species at risk is the NDP as a political force in the next Federal Election.

With Muclair as their leader they are guaranteed to lose many seats, and of course their coveted position as the opposition.

Such is the way of politics.

Jack Layton is the only NDP leader that ever had the ability to lead them . Mulcair is only good at criticizing . He is so negative on just about everything. And I’m a Liberal.

Hey Pal, where do you think that the conservatives will end up at? Why would he loose so many seats he is the opposition today and did very well in the last election..
Cheers

If NDP can hold on to its seats in Quebec, and merge (or tactically vote) with Greens, then they may have a chance at power, assuming that Liberals under Trudeau take more votes from the right than NDP.

The main battle will be in Quebec between Mulcair and Trudeau, but the tactical voting of Green/NDP will definitely help federals NDPs in at least 10 seats in BC.

Mulcair in Northwestern BC? Could there be any less of an issue here???

Harper, viewing the Polley Mine disaster but wont see him have to answer questions and would be a negative picture

prof: “If NDP can hold on to its seats in Quebec, and merge (or tactically vote) with Greens, then they may have a chance at power, assuming that Liberals under Trudeau take more votes from the right than NDP.”

Keep on dreaming. Mark my words, the NDP will lose big in Quebec next election. It was only on Jack Layton’s charisma that they made huge strides in Quebec. Mulcair has the charisma of a damp dish cloth.

Jack Layton was the NDP leader in 2004 and 2008 elections and he managed to win big only in 2011 when the federal Liberals ran with a leader with no connection to Quebec. Both Mulcair and Trudeau have links with Quebec this time.

The local politics in Quebec has also contributed to rise of NDP since Quebec was very angry with QC liberals corruption and student fee rises in 2011. But I don’t know why Quebec punished Bloc Qc Duccepe in 2011 election. He turned down the opportunity to lead the Party QC (PQ) to become Quebec premier. BQ may emerge again considering that PQ lost in 2014 election and the QC nationalists need a party in power in Qc or Ottawa. Mulcair’s opportunity may be in trying to fill that need for Qc considering that Trudeau name has a bad reputation among Qc nationalists.

NDP needs a research wing to analyse the data and events; something as BC Fraser Institute or CD Howe Institute in ON. I know BC NDP president Craig Kitting is interested in it.

The mere fact that the NDP has supporters is deeply disturbing.

Mulcair is Angry Man, Harper is Gestapo Guy, Trudeau is the Cheshire Cat, and May is Envious.
