Prince George, B.C. – Rainfall has helped fire crews in their efforts to contain a wildfire burning east of Mackenzie near the Powder King ski resort.

A spokesperson with the Wildfire Management Branch says the Stack Creek fire is 37 kilometres east of Mackenzie and is currently estimated at 1500 hectares.  It is zero percent contained but has received small amounts of rain and the fire activity has decreased for now.  It is not an interface fire so no structures or homes are threatened by it.

The fire is about 10 kilometres from Powder King and Highway 97 so it is visible from the highway.  There are currently eleven firefighters and two helicopters battling the fire, which was started by lightning on August 15th.
