Prince George, BC – The UNBC women's soccer team tied their second game against the MacEwan Griffins on Sunday morning. After a 2-0 loss the day before the Timberwolves were able to bounce back and tie the Griffins 2-2.

Straight out of the gate Timberwolves striker Sidney Roy (Burnaby, BC) fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box. The ball sailed across the net hitting the top right corner to put the UNBC up 1-0 within the first minute of play. The Timberwolves held on to their 1-0 lead until Casey Paplawski (Edmonton, AB) scored her second goal of the weekend, and the Griffins first of the game. Paplawski's goal evened out the game 1-1 heading into the break.

Both teams continued to push the pace of the game, creating scoring opportunities throughout the second half. At the 75th minute a free-kick for the Griffins gave Erika Vecchio (Edmonton, AB) a chance to put the ball inside to Taylor Chow (Edmonton, AB) but Chow's shot was blocked by the Timberwolves' back line. UNBC answered the next possession with their own attempt at net when Jessica Erickson (Prince George, BC) crossed the ball in front of the net to Sydney Hall (Prince George, BC) but a missed header left the score even at one.

The Timberwolves were first to break the tie in the 82nd minute. Third year forward Sidney Roy (Burnaby, BC) was sent down the field with a ball from Ashley Anderson (Prince George, BC). Roy beat the defender in a foot race, took her shot but it was blocked by the keeper. Sydney Wilson (Prince George, BC) followed up the shot and was able to put the bounce back past the Griffins keeper, giving the Timberwolves at 2-1 lead with seven minutes to play. The final play of the game in extra time gave the Griffins the opportunity they needed. Deep in the Timberwolves end a shot from Kassandra Jajczay (Edmonton, AB) was deflected off a UNBC defender. Jazmyne Mauthe was able to capitalize on the bounce and put it past the Timberwolves keeper.

At the final whistle the UNBC Timberwolves and the MacEwan University Griffins tied 2-2. The Timberwolves will continue their exhibition season next weekend when they travel to Thompson Rivers University for a two-game series.
