City Asked to Tweak the Pawn Brokers Bylaw
Prince George, B.C.- Game Quest, a local business which sells used video games, is calling on the City of Prince George to make a couple of amendments to the Second Hand and Pawn Brokers bylaw.
The request will be made at this evening's regular meeting of Prince George City Council.
Game Quest would like to see the hours of operation extended, as gamers don’t always fit the 9-6 time slot. The company will be bringing an 88 page petition bearing more than a thousand signatures to this evening’s meeting of City Council to try and persuade Council to tweak the bylaw’s 30 day holding clause, sales and purchasing rules.
Under the existing bylaw, 2nd hand items must be held for 30 days before being put on the shelf for sale. But Game Quest says that isn’t practical for video game sales as the games don’t have serial numbers that can be checked against stolen items, they would like that hold to be reduced to just 7 days.
Also on the agenda for this evening’s meeting, a call for Council to support the development of a Social Policy Framework in British Columbia to guide the development of policies and planning with respect to social needs across the province.
