The North Remains a Dry Spot in B.C.

Monday, August 25, 2014 @ 4:30 PM

Prince George, B.C. – Just how dry is B.C. at the moment?

Well that depends on where you live according to fire information officer Dustin Eno with the B.C. Wildfire Management Branch.

"It's a mixed bag. The Southeast is actually relatively wet at the moment. The same goes for the Northwest which means the fire danger rating is mainly low to moderate. But then there's sort of a diagonal strip that's running from Fort Nelson through to Vancouver Island and those areas have remained dry with very little precipitation the last month or so and with high to extreme danger ratings."

He says that dryness has led to a unique situation this year.

"The biggest unusual factor this year has been the persistence of that band from Fort Nelson to the Island. Usually some moisture moves through just as we've seen in other areas of the province."

Eno says the weather outlook indicates wet weather is on the way but warns the rain could bring strong winds which could lead to an increase in fire behaviour.
