Gas Leak Downtown – Update
Prince George, B.C. – Fortis BC is estimating the 38 customers affected by this morning’s gas leak downtown won’t have their service restored until mid-afternoon.
Spokesperson Michael Allison confirms they received a report of a leak at 7:30 in the 300 block of Quebec Street.
He says a Fortis technician discovered a leaking gas riser which he says is a number of gas meters.
As a result Allison says they haven’t been able to determine a cause but notes the first step that crews took was shutting off the gas and in turn have been working with the fire department on evacuating the area.
He says there have been evacuations between Brunswick and Quebec Street on Third Avenue. Traffic has also been blocked between Brunswick & Dominion and between Second and Fourth Avenue.
Allison says there have been no reports of injuries.
