School Zones in effect around private schools

Prince George,  B.C. – The picket lines are up again at  public schools across the province following a  failed attempt to  get  the two sides  in the  teacher’s  contract dispute  into  mediation.  Veteran mediator Vince Ready walked away from the process on the weekend saying the two sides were  much too far apart to warrant a mediation effort.

So with no mediation, public schools are  not  back in session, however, private schools are,  and that means  school zones  near those  schools are in effect.

“There are some private schools in Prince George and we will be watching to make sure drivers  are obeying  the speed limits  within those zones” says  Corporal Cory Egan, head of Municipal Traffic Services for the Prince George Detachment of the RCMP.

For those who may have forgotten, the  speed limit in a school zone is  30km per hour,  from 8 a.m to 5 p.m. on any  school day.

Students at Cedars Christian School plan to be in class for half the day  today, Westside Academy students will also be attending class today.

Students at the three Catholic Independent Schools (Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s)  will be in class  tomorrow for the full day starting at 8:45 and  the school day  ending at 2:50 in the afternoon.

Diversified  Transport  provides the buses for the students at Immaculate Conception,  those buses will be operating  as usual  tomorrow morning.

Public Schools need to realize parents have a choice where to send their children to be educated. Make it too difficult and they will choose an alternative. It won’t matter what you think. The parents of our children are your employer (Potential) Don’t forget that. It’s not about Government and it’s not about Teachers or their Unions.
