Seniart in Quesnel
Quesnel, B.C. – A free arts program for seniors is set to start in Quesnel the middle of September.
Called Seniart, the classes are being run courtesy Art Programming at Quesnel & District Leisure Services.
Art program coordinator Elizabeth Waldorf says those eligible include any senior who has found it difficult to join in art sessions previously for any number of reasons.
“It offers the chance for seniors to get out of the house, and have some stress-free creative time.”
She says sessions will take place at a variety of locations such as Donrovin, the Seniors Centre, the Friendship Centre, and Quesnel & District Arts & Recreation Centre’s Studio.
Waldorf estimates approximately 80 seniors have already expressed an interest in participating in the program and notes morning and afternoon art program times will be available once spaces are scheduled.
She’s also recruiting local artists as lead instructors and members of the community as assistants to the participants.
Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to call Waldorf at 250-991-4013 or email her at ewaldorf@quesnel.ca.
Seniart has been made possible via a grant from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and the Northern Health Community Grant.
The program is sheduled to run through January 2015.
