Labour Day Reflection

Monday, September 1, 2014 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, B.C.-  It’s Labour Day,  and for some that means  last day of summer holidays before school begins, but for others, it’s a time to reflect.

Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour Shirley Bond says Labour Day  is an opportunity to  give thanks “to give thanks to the hard-working British Columbians who built our great province and made it an even greater place to live, work and raise our families.

In a statement issued to mark Labour Day,   Minister Bond says every worker has the right to come home safely at the end of the day “Following the efforts made by the labour movement and governments present and past, we continue to work collaboratively with employees, employers and unions to make workplaces safer and improve worker safety and worker rights.”

Bond says it is also a time to look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for B.C.  It is estimated there will be one million job openings in B.C. by 2022.

“On behalf of government this Labour Day, I want to express my gratitude for all the great work British Columbians do.  Working together, I know we can build on our proud legacy and make British Columbia an even better, more prosperous and safer place.”
