Part of Green Zone to Put Out the Blue Bins
Prince George, B.C.- It has been a long time coming, but today will see the first free curbside recycling in Prince George and in Quesnel.
Under the Multi Materials BC program, the pick up of recyclables that have been placed in the two blue bins delivered to homes throughout the two cities, will happen every second week on the same day garbage is picked up.
The pick up schedule for the recyclables has been arranged by splitting the garbage zones in two, and allowing for pick up every second week. The only problem is, the map which was among the materials delivered to Prince George homes, is a little confusing.
The major error on the Prince George map, has the Nechako River labeled the Fraser River. This causes confusion because when the green zone is divided into two areas, ( one remaining dark green the other pink) the remaining green zone is defined as being “north and east of Fraser River” while the pink area is labeled as being “south of Fraser River”. In fact, the areas should be listed as:
dark green- North of Nechako River, and east of Fraser River
pink – south of Nechako River,
So today, the recycling in Prince George will start in one part of the “green zone” for garbage pick up ( north of Nechako River and East of Fraser River), while in Quesnel, it is to start in the Baker Drive, North Fraser Drive, Lewis Drive and Uplands areas.
As 250News reported Sunday (see previous story) not everyone will be serviced by the program including businesses and those living in apartments or those who do not receive garbage collection.
