Wildfire Season Far From Over
Prince George, B.C. – BC’s not out of the woods when it comes to wildfires.
In fact provincial fire information officer George Maratos says there are currently 140 fires still burning in B.C. including seven fires of note.
One of those is responsible for B.C.’s only evacuation order (the Chelaslie Fire in the Northwest) and an evacuation alert (Mt. McAllister fire near Chetwynd in the PG Fire Centre).
He says the Prince George and Northwest Fire Centres’ remain B.C.’s most active adding the fire danger rating in both ranges from high to extreme.
With all the fire activity Maratos encourages people to burn responsibly this long weekend and to make sure their fires are properly extinguished.
Anyone who witnesses a wildfire is encouraged to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on your cell phone.
