Prince George, B.C. – The University of Northern BC is celebrating the kick-off to its 25th anniversary today.

Festivities have included an orientation barbecue for close to 500 new students, an announced expansion to the school’s award-winning energy system and a tree planting ceremony.

The ceremony marks the start of a project, led by the Natural Resources and Environmental Studies Institute, to plant trees around Northern BC in honour of each of the 16,000 Northerners who joined the public campaign for UNBC more than 25 years ago.

UNBC is also holding a variety of tours in an effort to highlight the Prince George campus.

I was one of those 16,000 who pledged money and a commitment to support this university 25 years ago. I am please at the growth and the expansion of the programs at our local University. We are so fortunate to have a respected University as well as the College of New Caledonia in our city to offer our residents. Thank goodness for the trades programs. They should be the focus of our support going forward. I have and will support them.

So happy that UNBC has made a HUGE difference in many peoples lives. My wife was able to get a degree there while living at home. A BIG thanks to everyone involved with it’s existence.
