Mayor’s Race In Quesnel, Vanderhoof, and Prince George
We will have a Mayors race in Prince George and the two surrounding communities, Quesnel, and Vanderhoof this November.
With nothing more than a whisper campaign taking place in any of these centers it is hard to say just who will be the front runner.
In Vanderhoof, new comer Jessie Wilson will take on incumbent Mayor Gerry Thiessen. It is no secret that Wilson has been looking into the expenses of the sitting mayor and that in itself will make for an interesting race. She says the expenses by the mayor are a little bit too high . She is born and raised in Vanderhoof, so name recognition will play a part.
To the south in Quesnel, Mary Sjostrom will find she is in a tough battle with Bob Simpson, former NDP, former Independent MLA. Many of those who may have thought of taking on Sjostrom in the past bowed out of the race rather than try and out seat a veteran . Bob Simpson is a different kettle of fish, he knows the game and with the union backing him , he is a strong contender. Sjostrom has the lead going into the race , but don’t count Simpson out.
Here in Prince George, Don Zurowksi is making a bid to re enter local politics having lost to Dan Rogers in a previous election. Don’t expect Zurowksi to be shy, he got his nose bloodied in his last attempt at the mayor’s chair and this go round he will be much tougher. Lyn Hall wants the job,and again he faces a tough battle. Trying to convince the public that the way the city has been run was not to his liking is going to be difficult, very difficult. Hall may be receiving the exposure at the present time by being a high profile member of council, but in this race that may not be of any help.
So what’s in store? No block busters as yet. As the campaign gets into high gear and people begin to ask the questions they have been saving for election time we are sure to see things heat up.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Anyone but Hall please.
Zurowski was a council member for 9 years, before running for Mayor against Rodgers. Cant think of anything specific that he did, other than being a rubber stamp for Kinsley.
If Hall is to be held responsible for the way the City was run with Mayor Green, then it naturally follows that Zurowski should be held responsible for how the City was run under Kinsley.
At present we have two candidates for Mayor, and in terms of level headedness, long term planning, the ability to work with different groups, and an ego that is held in check, Hall is the best candidate.
Have a nice day.
OMG are we going from bad to worst, I would never vote for Zurowiski, just a trumped up blow bag who dosen’t is in love with himself .
My vote is still up for grabs. I’ll be listening to what both candidates have to say.
I’m still undecided as the campaigning front has been quiet. I’m leaning towards Hall at the moment. Yes, this council could have been better, and I truly believe Shari Green was one of the worst mayors this city could have seen. I don’t think all of that should be dumped onto Hall.
My ears are open, I look forward to hearing where they are on some of the higher profile issues.
Shari Green was one of the worst, if not the worst mayor in the history of
Prince George and Hall was one of her puppets. Hall voted with Green on 100% of council votes through the last 3 years. If you had a problem with the way the city has been run since the last election think twice about voting for Hall. I’m going to give Zurowski every chance to prove that he is up to the task.
Superdave may have a point. Is there anywhere to look up all the council minutes or votes that have happened? Whoever the new mayor/council are, I hope they realize this consistent increase in property tax and utilities cannot keep increasing. We are already above and beyond most cities our size. $1000 year for utilities is insanity. Really looking forward to the storm drain tax.
