I hope she is okay.
without knowing exactly what happened to cause the attack I hope that people who own dogs and take them to off leash areas ensure they are aware of what the consequences are when they do not pay attention to their dogs behaviour.

Sue the dog owner! I am tired of being harassed by irresponsible dog owners in this city with no enforcement by the city animal control employees. Does someone have to die before the City acts?

I thought these dogs were to be muzzled when out in public. Hate to say it but I hope the dog is destroyed and the owner prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Where is Ginters field?

It’s a field at the base of Cranbrook Hill, below where Ben Ginter built a mansion in the 1960’s.In the Pinewood area I believe?
Sad to hear of the lady getting bitten, hope she recovers well, and quickly.
metalman.

I hope they actually know/find out what kind of dog this was. Just because it has a boxy stature and head doesn’t make it a pit bull by default. On another note, not all dogs need to be murdered when they behave like this Krusty. Perhaps asking questions like, was the lady acting in a way that would alarm a dog? Was the dog displaying signs of discomfort, anxiety or stress? Was the owner aware that they were not in control of the situation? Was it even a pitbull? We can’t jump to conclusions because we weren’t there, and didn’t witness it. Had a small dog attacked an elderly lady and resulted in a hospital visit, most of you would laugh and say something joking or sarcastic. But the second the word ‘pitbull’ appears most people go mental, as proven by Krusty’s lewd comment. Do the research, and find the facts.

Thanks metalman.

How many more attacks like this do we have to endure before we got a dangerous dog by-law that prohibits ownership of these animals? There is nothing more terrifying than being out on a nice hike with your family and an unleashed pit bull comes charging up at you. Every time I confront the irresponsible owners about the dog not being leashed I get the same response – “oh he’s really friendly.” I bet the owner of this pit bull said the exact same thing many times before. There are many wonderful breeds out there. There is no reason to settle on a pit bull unless your primary intention is to guard a grow op or a crack shack, or you just want to look like a tough guy. BY the way, for those of us who want to be able to defend ourselves against these scary breeds (like pit bulls, akitas), does anyone know how effective dog spray is on these animals?

People keep proving time and time again that they can’t control this breed of dog.

Ginter’s Field is at the end of Massey Drive below UNBC. Just cross Ospika Blvd. and drive another 300 m west.

Pitt bulls should be banned.
And stupid owners.

It is at the top end of Massey Drive, keep going through the lights at Ospika and the road turns to dirt and there is a parking area. Just follow the old driveway to Ginter’s Field

There is a bylaw on pit bull breeds and crossbreeds as they are considered a restricted dog in PG. Dangerous dog regulations include restricted dogs. They cannot be off leash and must wear a muzzle in public spaces:

8.2 A person may cause or allow a Dangerous Dog owned by that person:
(a) to be on a highway or in a public place only if the Dangerous Dog is
(i) firmly held on a Leash,
(ii) firmly held by a person competent to restrain the Dangerous Dog, and
(iii) muzzled by a properly fitted humane device.
(b) to be on private land, or in a private building or structure, only with the consent of the occupier of that property and only if muzzled by a properly fitted humane device.
(c) to be on the Owner’s land only in a building or Enclosure

Owner should be taken into custody. Unfortunately, because of another moron, an animal will have to be destroyed and a woman may never recover from her injuries.

There are far too many idiot dog owners. I don’t even care if this dog escaped from its enclosure and went on a rampage, there are far too many improperly socialized dogs running around out there and we have to hold people accountable. Most medium to large sized dogs are capable of killing small children if they have a bad temperament.

Want a safe community? Stop looking the other way and let’s do something about these goofs.

Every pitbull I’ve known has been a huge suck. But then again, my friends are all responsible owners who socialize and train their dogs.
Don’t blame the breed, blame the owner.
Small dogs have a higher rate of biting, but generally don’t break the skin so it’s not reported. Look up ‘small/little dog syndrome’.

95% of the time, it’s the owner that’s at fault. You have to train dogs and they enjoy it. And you have to be hyper vigilant around other dogs that may be aggressive, learn the warning signs, lots of online help out there.

Owners can’t be trusted to regulate themselves, so government has to step in.

As an aside, PG has some of the worst dog owners anywhere. From letting their dogs run free, to penning them up in the backyard to bark all day. Talking to them about it only gets you attitude.

There should be no off leash areas in public! All dogs bite and all dogs are unpredictable. It’s same old story every time a dog bites! “He/she has never done that before”.

Hope these links work.

I’ve got a couple of tooth marks on my ass from a dog that doesn’t bite.

The owner should be sued under Civil Law.

Doing something wrong, sorry. Cut and paste these.

Littleone, I’m not happy that yet another dog has to be euthanized because of the irresponsibility of some pinhead dog owner. And frankly, I don’t care if it’s a pit bull or some sort of terrier breed that could be mistaken for a pit bull; same end result. Would you have us wait until the dog attacks a child and maims or kills that child?
Oh, and please look up the word “lewd” before you using it in the wrong context.

Carry bearspray!

The dog should be put down for what it has done, Period!

It’s not the breed it’s the owner.

Murdered? Whatever!

“Look up ‘small/little dog syndrome”

It applies to humans too!

Look up bylaws Dragon, any pit bull or cross breed of a pit bull must be leashed and muzzled when out in public period. Bylaw services should use the full extent of fines in the city’s bylaw in this case if it is proven to be a pit bull or cross breed of pit bull – it will get the message out to ;responsible’ owners.

I know of a few who will not touch these breeds anymore after owning a few, brother in law told me his just went berserk one day and had to be put down, their third one which was just over 5 years old. Was a great playful dog before that incident, ripped apart its best buddy but luckily not one of the kids or another unsuspecting bystander or visitor.

I have a friend in the US that has been training dogs for 35 years. He loves dogs and trains all breeds. He said there is only one breed he doesn’t trust and that’s Pitbulls. When they snap, they snap – it doesn’t matter that they have been snuggling babies for their entire life, they are a loaded gun. I say mandatory liability insurance to own one.

It isn’t just pitbulls, my daughter was out walking my dogs and a Rotti that was off leash went after one of my dogs that was on leash. No I don’t have a problem with any breed, I have a problem with the owners. People need to be more responsible dog owners, if you can’t keep your dog close and under your control at all times then don’t let it off leash.
