Prince George, B.C.- It was a packed house at the Prince George Civic Centre today as teachers with  the Prince George District Teachers Association   received details about the tentative contract hammered out  this week.

The teachers have been voting all day, and final results are expected to be released  later this evening.

If the vote is to accept the contract,  then it is hoped schools will be open again early next week. School District 57  has yet to advise  its timeline for the resumption of classes.

BCTF Executive have been  recommending the teachers accept the deal which, among other things,   provides a 7.25% increase over  6 years.

They still vote out in the open with people watching them write, why didn’t they just bring the boxes out to the picket lines if they have no formal private voting system

Look mom, their playing follow the leader.

I am not sure if this is relevant but I encourage everyone to check out Section 39 (1) of the Labour Relations Code of BC

Not any attempt whatsoever to have a secret ballot. Pathetic.

That is because they are mature enough to find privacy if they think they need it.

Ya, go with that Noway. Is this Panama?

No, no dow7501, this is Afghanistan. You dip your finger in ink, leave your fingerprint as proof of citizenship, then get shot a block away from the polling station, because you have ink on your finger.

“Not any attempt whatsoever to have a secret ballot.”

Somehow your dislike of teachers compels you to find something negative to say.
Pathetic.

When hipocracy stares you in the face, reasoned people speak up Karmen.

It’s just a vote, it’s not like its a political vote with secret ballot..bible over the box..

But it’s good some of you can find bad in everything related to the teachers. Fine work in trying to make nothing into something.

P Val, please explain the NDP government’s on going policy debate over the secret ballot. To me it’s a unquestionable right. Yet the union movement likes an open ballot. Things that make you go hmmmmm.

I see the problem of posts with links in them not appearing promptly on the website is still here.

Why even have the boxes, with the openness a simple show of hands would have worked.

Well how a ongoing debate works is there is a group of people who want a secret ballot and a group that doesn’t. So,they each state the reason for their stance and they then discuss..aka debate the situation.

I have been to a union meeting where as decision was a show of hands. I have been to a meeting at a non Union shop where it was a show of hands.

You need your signature beside your name before you receive your ballot. That is why you see teachers writing on the table. You then can mark either a simple yes or no. You have the choice of doing this simple task there or at another spot.

dow7501,
“Yet the union movement likes an open ballot. Things that make you go hmmmmm.”

Maybe you have never voted, dow7501; confirmation of eligibility is the first step.

So you teacher haters what are your solutions, 3,5 or ten years out? Did any of you graduate? Just asking.

dow7501,
“When hipocracy stares you in the face, reasoned people speak up …”
Or, given your incorrect assumption from this story’s picture you could go “hmmmmm”.
Of course you have to be able to recognize hypocrisy.

Sure did seamut .A bachelors as well. whats’s your point?

@Karman. Negative? Just pointing out a fact.

“@Karman. Negative?.”
