Watermain Woes

Tuesday, September 23, 2014 @ 4:58 PM

Prince George, B.C. – There’s been a watermain fracture in downtown Prince George.

The City’s Communications Manager Todd Corrigall, says it happened during work on the 4th Avenue conversion project (at Quebec Street) during the compaction process this afternoon.

He says it’s been throttled down and crews will fix the affected area tomorrow morning.

Corrigall says service will continue as normal until crews return in the morning at which point service will be disrupted.

He expects service will be restored to customers in the area by early afternoon.

Corrigall advises once service is restored that residents run their water until it is clear.

Hopefully, there are no fires during the disruption.

What is up with the 4th and Quebec? It has been under some sort of construction, torn up mess for over a year?
What is the problem exactly?

Uh, where yuh bin? They’re mak’in it in to a two way street, don’t yuh know?
Why? Downtown revitalization. You know, one a them there new ideas to spruce up the down….town…..?

So as we are working on one project, we get over exuberant in compacting, and bust the watermain. So up go our costs, and we get the Ho Hum, from the City that they will come around to-morrow and fix it.

No mention of the additional cost of course.

Woould this mistake cost be covered by the contractor who did it?

One would think so but, who knows what the city agreed to in the contract?

So fix it during the day for maximum disruption. Only in PG.

There is water leaking out of a water shutoff valve at Ferry and Westwood too. That should cause some interesting traffic detours!
Eagleone: I think they only call out people on overtime for important things, like stringing lights on trees at city hall on a weekend. For a water leak? Nah.
