University ‘Speed’- Way

Friday, September 26, 2014 @ 11:58 AM

Prince George, B.C.- University Way  in  Prince George has become one of the  roads in the community where drivers  often have their foot to the floor.

To no surprise, two speeding enforcement efforts this week along that roadway resulted in  one vehicle being impounded  and about 40 speeding tickets being issued.

Average speed of the violators was estimated to be 95 km/h in the 70 km/h zone.

One offender was recorded driving at 126 km/h. The 20 year old male driver was issued an Excessive Speeding ticket which comes with a $368 fine and a 7 day vehicle impound.

“These speeds are dangerous and unacceptable” says Cpl. Corey Eggen of the Traffic Services Section. “They clearly show that many drivers have no respect for other users of this road, including walkers and runners.”

One ‘N’ driver that was pulled over, actually told the officer that he should “write the ticket quicker for students”, as they are “in a hurry to get to class.”

Speed enforcement will continue at this location and at other popular speeding locations in the City.

Drivers convicted of Excessive Speed are also subject to Driver Risk Premiums from ICBC for three years. In addition, all violators could face a Drivers License review from the BC Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

No doubt in the downhill lane.

It was actually the uphill lane when I passed by. The whole thing was quite hilarious because you could see the cop car and their bright yellow jackets from far away. Three people sped past me and were hauled over. I’m actually surprised they only handed out forty tickets, given how many were being pulled over.

lol @ the dummy who said they should write the tickets faster. He/she should be lucky the car wasn’t impounded and can still drive it to class. Wonder if that person will pass the class, doesn’t seem too bright.

Quite a few “students” that have come up to the region for school think the local roads are practice areas, “Fast and Furious” mind set from the coast.

We just need to wait for the weather to change a bit and most of these idiots are dealt with via nature and the gas pedal. Seen a few young “rock stars” end up in the rhubarb. Gee even seen a visiting Chinese student take the wrap for his Canadian school mate who wrapped his car around my neighbors tree and fled the scene in another vehicle that was following them.

Just hope that with the idiots, don’t take out the general public with the stupidity they pull off. Big fan of dash cams, video worth more than a thousand words.

95km/h??? The horror!

And people wonder why there are wildlife collisions along there and Tyner Blvd.
Maybe that one student should get up a little earlier, then he wouldn’t be in so much of a hurry.

lhl: You do know that most people only look about fifty feet in front of them, don’t you?

Hart Speedway next? One can only hope.

What idiots. No respect for anyone getting caught on that hill. It’s so obvious.

Great place for speed though, the hill weeds out all the fools with no acceleration.

How about checking the speed of drivers on Dawson Road and through Hixon? The fines can help finance needed amenities for the various areas. Time to have the offenders pay dearly rather than the property owners!

Good work. Now if they do the same for the Hart Highway, and 97 South to the BCR Industrial Park they will start to make some inroads into this speeding and **stupid** driving problem.

These people are speeding because:

a. They need to go to the bathroom
b. They need to go to Tim Hortons
c. They slept in and are late for work
D. They have no ideas where the speed signs are posted or what the mean.

Good to see some enforcement in this trouble spot. The Hart would be another good place to collect some extra revenue from speeders, any week day morning between 07:00 and 09:00 and most especially on a Friday afternoon.
metalman.

“95km/h??? The horror!” .. not if the speed limit is 100 on, say, a highway, but this is a busy road with cyclists, pedestrians, dog walkers, etc. Some people sure have a sense of entitlement to only think about themselves. Would you still say that if it was a school zone?

Speed limit in a school zone is 30km/h.
