Big Crowd Returns for Beginning of New Ice Age
Prince George, B.C. – Over 5,600 fans flocked to CN Centre for the beginning of the PG Cougars new ice age last night.
Among them was “super fan” Tony Wedzinga who says it was his first time back to a Cougars game after a four year hiatus.
“I used to dress up like this for games with my son. We ended up getting labelled super fans.”
He says he’s purchased season tickets again “because of the new ownership.”
Phil McBride has renewed his seasons tickets for the 9th consecutive season and has stuck with the franchise through thick and thin.
He’s also excited because of the new ownership.
“It’s great to see an owner that wants to be in front of people – the group they’ve put together. Look what they’ve done. They’ve regenerated a belief in the Cougars.
His friend Joe Bourdeau has had seasons for 16 years and has tempered his expectations for the coming year.
“This year I would like to see us hit .500 – I don’t expect a whole lot.”
The announced crowd of 5,659 was treated to a pre-game laser show and an appearance from former fan favourite Tyler Bouck who dropped the puck for the ceremonial face-off.
The new 50/50 system was also a hit with fans tipping the jackpot to over $11,000.
As for the result, the visiting Kelowna Rockets beat the Cougars 7-2. The Cats will have a chance to get their revenge tonight though at 7:00 p.m. in game two of the doubleheader.

Holy Cow! That’s more than the population of Vanderhoof, at a game.Won’t get that at a PAC.
Happy days for the Cougars and fans ahead.
I guess I’m more of a results oriented guy, less of an excuses kinda guy. I’m already getting the “the refs called too many penalties on us” is why we lost…. sheesh!
Results come over time! I don’t think you completely change a culture over night. Although that is what everybody is hoping for.
