Bennett Seeks Second Term

Prince George, B.C. – School Trustee Tim Bennett plans to keep on fighting for quality and equitable education for all students if he’s elected to a second term in office.

“Funding is the biggest challenge for the district. This last year we saw a $5 million deficit. We had to ask schools and departments to take a .5% cut. We had to find additional savings and take out of surplus and let’s face it – when you take $3 million out of surplus you can only go to that well so many times.”

He says districts haven’t seen such funding challenges since the early to mid 2000’s and says “there really needs to be a louder voice and continued advocacy on behalf of all students in the district.”

Bennett says he’ll provide that loud voice if voters give him another chance.

“My little guy will be starting kindergarten during the next mandate and I want to ensure I’m creating the best possible system, not just for him, but for all students.”

He says he’d also like to continue on with some exciting things going on with the district.

“We are seeing more children having success in their education – higher graduation rates, higher aboriginal graduation rates.”

Bennett also prides himself on his availability to the electorate.

“I was quite active getting into the schools visiting classrooms, making sure I was available online, anytime my phone rang I’ve been willing to talk about public education.”

And he says that won’t change if he’s re-elected.

“If anyone is interested in learning more about me or about where my views are I’m always available online on Twitter, Facebook or just call me and we’ll chat.”
