Krause Makes It Official

Thursday, October 2, 2014 @ 11:49 AM

krausePrince George, B.C.- To no surprise, Councilor Murry Krause has officially announced he  is seeking re-election in the upcoming  municipal election.

Krause  made the announcement  at the  Prince George native Friendship Centre, saying he wanted to make the announcement in a place that had meaning to him.

Krause says the city is  about more than “pipes and potholes”, it’s about the people who live here” and pledges to continue working on the issues of  affordable housing, First Nations relations, the health and well being of all citizens,  infrastructure maintenance,  enhancement of quality of life,  social justice, advancement of arts and culture, the food security discussion and “very committed to a functional council through leadership and being a team player.”

“I’ve always been ready to step up and do the extra work” says Krause, who continues to be involved in a number of committees. He was just recently elected as 3rd Vice President to the UBCM that role could lead to his becoming the first UBCM President from Prince George.

Krause is the seasoned veteran on Council having already served 5 terms. If he is successful in this re-election bid, he will have served 19 years in municipal government.

As Chair of the City’s 100th Anniversary committee Krause says that work is all about civic pride.  “I think we all know in this community that we have to stop the self deprecation, we are sometimes, our own worst enemy.  This is an incredible community and I think we need to be proud of who we are and what we’ve accomplished and what our future looks like.  So I think it’s really important that we stop putting ourselves down   and acknowledging we live in a pretty incredible place.”

Krause says he supports keeping the Performing Arts Centre on the agenda, however, it’s all about securing funding. “I am in full support of the Performing Arts Centre, again, which has been acknowledged by everyone, the City of Prince George can’t go it alone. If this is going to proceede we need the involvement   support and engagement of other levels of government and probably the corporate sector as well.  It really is about standing behind it, the time has to be right so I’m hoping that’s in the near future, but we will have to wait and see.”

Krause says the bottom line is, voter participation has to be increased especially since the new term is four years “No matter who you vote for, get out and vote, please, exercise your ability to vote.”

Murray is the only decent one of the current councillors.
Hopefully he will have some new coworkers soon :)

It’s all about what serves the City and it’s residents. A PAC only serves a small cross section of the community, Hall 1 serves the greater downtown area and it’s residents and businesses. Hall 1 was to be over hauled back in the 60’s and wasn’t. Priorities fall short with a lot of the candidates and incumbents running for office. If you aren’t part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. After 5 terms you should have shown your leadership skills a while ago. Clean house, fresh slate with new faces and some real forward thinking, not just what serves your personal needs. I have only pointed out one issue, there are many more that need to be addressed (which should have been addressed a long time ago). Food for thought.

What is hall1?

Hall 1 is Prince George’s main fire hall next door to City Hall.

As he supports the pac he shows he doesnt represent the people.. wont be getting my vote. 5 terms and the snow removal has gotten worse and we are being taxed or hit with higher fees for everything.

Also.. what does he mean by social justice ?

I for one wish he would just go away. Because of all his social programs we are now the go to city for homeless people. How much more can we increase our taxes in order to keep up with these programs? The homeless certainly don’t pay taxes. Maybe we should do the same as Vancouver did for the Olympics and give one way tickets to some of these people back to Vancouver.

I have voted for Murry the past 4 elections but not this time. I really don’t know what he stands for anymore. He does great work in the community but for me it is time to give someone else a shot.

No fire hall should ever be renovated.
The only thing getting done in there is loading around and trading stocks.

I’m curious Professional. Where do you stand with Stoltz?

P Val and Duffer: you make social justice and homelessness sound like dirty words.

Not at all bear, I am just getting tired of all the people coming here from the rest of the province for us to look after.

Murry, just not affective anymore he’s lost,

How did they get by for about 50 years without overhauling Hall 1?

No disrespect to Councilor Krause, I think that his heart is in the right place, but he is now too much a politician and I don’t believe he is very effective as a city councilor. It is my opinion that being on council has become part of his identity, of course he wants to continue. Being named “3rd vice president” (ooh wow!) has only serves to further boost his ego. I mean add that title to 3 bucks and you can get a latte’
Again, all due respect, but too political to actually be in danger of getting things done.
metalman.

Our City is too focused of social justice and thats why so many people move when they retire or use us as a stepping stone.

i should have said our City is too focused on social justice. We need to focus on the Winter Games, enough Doctors , police, safe neighbourhoods, lots of other things. No disrespect to Councilor Krause but its time.

So has been on council for 5 terms and he now figures it’s time to have a functional council.

He says lots but says nothing.

Murray should have considered stepping down and making room for a new Councillor. He has been in office for 15 years, which in my opinion is plenty of time dedicated to public service. There are others standing in line to fill these positions, however they are being pushed out by those who like to stay, or like Zurowski who served nine years as a Councillor lost a bid for Mayor, and now wants to make a comeback.

We cannot get new blood at City Hall if we keep electing the old timers.
Some of the Councillors who were elected last election in my opinion should get a shot at another term, however some of the older ones should probably move on.

Well spoken, Palopu.
