Prince George, B.C. – The UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s soccer teams wrap up their Canada West Universities Athletic Association home schedule today when they face the Trinity Western University Spartans in the back end of a weekend twin bill.

On Saturday the UNBC women’s side battled through a scoreless first half before giving up two goals in the final 25 minutes to fall 2-0 to TWU. The Timberwolves hold a record of 0-7-2 and hold down sixth place in the 7-team Pacific Division. The Spartans are in second spot with a 6-0-1 mark. As one fan commented, “it takes time to develop a successful program. And you have to remember that the new kids on the block are playing against schools which have been around for a hundred years.”

Over on the men’s side, the T’wolves gave up an early goal just four minutes in, but Brandon Wallace tallied twice to give the home side a 2-1 lead at the half. Wallace scored his hattrick goal in the second half and that, along with markers from Brett Bobier and Tofa Fakunle, who also had two assists, led the Timberwolves to a 5-3 victory over the Spartans. UNBC actually scored six times but on was an own goal. Ty Venhola was credited with four saves in recording the victory, although he was much busier than the save total would indicate.

UNBC is sixth in the division at 2-7-0 while TWU is just ahead of them at 3-3-1.

The rematches go at noon today for the women, 2:15 pm for the men.

The UNBC teams close out their seasons next weekend with a trip to Kamloops to face TRU.
