Mt. McAllister Restricted Area Lifted
Prince George, B.C.- The area restriction near the Mt. McAllister fire that has been burning near Chetwynd since early July, has been lifted.
The fire itself remains active, and has burned 26280 hectares.
While all firefighters have been pulled from this blaze, crews continue to monitor and do rehabilitation work in the area.
Prince George Fire Centre spokesperson Jill Kelsh says the rehab work is aimed at improving conditions on the ground “It includes reseeding, reducing the potential for erosion, and repairing the ground where heavy equipment had been operating.”
There is still danger in the Mount McAllister area, including trees which have sustained root damage, these trees could fall over without warning. Other dangers in the area include fire hotspots, unstable temporary access routes and fireguards.
The Mount McAllister fire was started by lightning.
