Zurowski to Open Campaign Office

Saturday, October 11, 2014 @ 4:51 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Prince George mayoralty candidate Don Zurowski will kick off his campaign office later today and detail what he’s calling his PG100 campaign.

He says his campaign will be shaped by what he’s heard from voters the past few months. 20141008_155152

“Almost everyone I have spoken with feels city hall has stopped listening to the people of the city. Whether it is increased taxes, spending priorities, how infrastructure projects are managed, or snow clearing, people feel disconnected to their local government.”

If elected Zurowski says he’ll restore easier access to the Mayor’s office “so that taxpayers and citizens alike are able once again to voice their concerns.”

He says one of his goals will be to “assemble a cross-section of citizens” and develop a plan to grow the city’s population to 100,000.

Zurowski’s office opening will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 1669-15th Avenue.

Go Donny!
Let’s just be sure to have foxy along for the ride!

“And I will travel the world….sign twinning agreements with many great cities, and convince them to move to the great city of Prince George”.

Trite phrases like **Lets get growing**. Vague promise’s like getting a **cross section of citizens** to grow the City, wont get my vote.

We need more specific plans for this City. Not the least of which is reducing costs, and increasing services. Now that’s a goal I could vote for and watch develop.

Zurowski had his chance when he was on Council for 9 years. It time for the newbys to take over.

Well after looking at the two mayoral candidates I am not impressed by either.. but I sure hope whoever gets in they live up to thier promises, the last mayor certainly didnt live up to hers.

So he has decided to listen to the voting public for the last few months.. to bad it took him so long to start caring what the tax payers say.. guess he has to say that now that he wants the mayors chair.

Don is very similar to Kinsley. Both connected in the community, both blue collar guys… seems like a good choice.

Try and manage what you have and the growth will look after it’s self.
Cheers

Past council has come across as followers, we need leaders in Prince George and I think Don Zurowski has that ability to lead. Leaders may not always be correct, but at least they have the fortitude and tenacity to lead and have a vision for the future. Unfortunately the majority of the current city council, had their chance and failed and will not receive my vote, save one or two that I think are diamonds in the rough, that through Zurowski’s leadership will bring out the shine. :)

Are you kidding me? A vote for Don is nothing more than a vote for a continuation of the Sherry Green era! It would be interesting to see who’s at this function, as I know he hangs in the same crowd as green and Stoltz. Where’s your money coming from Mr.Z? Without a doubt the same pot as greens did! Be careful folks!

Catch phrases and buzzwords seem to be all that we’re hearing so far from the mayoral candidates.

I’ll be interested to see if Hall or Zurowski can address the elephant in the room — the question of why it takes a payroll of $50 Million to run a City of 75,000 people. And asking the hard questions, like why do we have so many firefighters making over $100K per year.

If either Hall or Zurowski can take that issue head on, they’ve got my vote. I’ll be very surprised if the issue even comes up… in which case, it doesn’t matter who you cast your vote for. It will be more of the status quo.

Um, I think it’s going to be a case of hold your nose, and mark the ballot. Lesser of two evils. On the other hand, council quite often sets the tone for the city; time will tell what we get!

Politics can, at times, be all about the “catch phrase”. It’s up to us as the voting public to listen and decide who is full of B.S. and who is the best person to represent the people of the community, and it’s interest as a whole.

It would be fool hardy to vote someone into the Mayor’s seat who hasn’t served at least one or two terms as council. So we have a choice, between two people who have some time in overseeing the city and it’s operation. Now we need to find out where they see the city going for the next 4 years and how it’s going to get there. Are these people team players? Will they listen to the others on council and listen to the voice of the tax payers?

We don’t need shifty people in Council and the Mayor’s seat, we need people who have foresight, integrity and the desire to foster growth in our community that is financially responsible. It’s a user pay world now and this needs to be reflected in the decisions that our new council makes. This job these folks are apply for by our vote is not just a make work position, it’s serious and can make or break the financial future of the city and it’s residents.

I for one am sick and tired of the tax grab scams, this is a city and the in coming council need to start off by treating this place as a city and run it accordingly. Decisions need to be made, not everyone will like them, but as long as they have been discusses with the population and it’s in the collective best interest, then it needs to be done. But it needs to be about Prince George first, everything else is back ground fluff.

I think its a shame more people didn’t run for mayor. Now we have to vote like its 2 boxers in a ring. The only change we may see is a increase in wages to run city hall. The new mayor will still have Beth James doing all their work while they travel the world enhancing Prince George giving it that wow factor.

What you need is to find someone that will polish up the City is what it really needs. The candidates every one of them think that “growing “ is all that’s needed. Well its not that simple. You have to look after what you have and if you cant do that how can you expect to grow.

I’ve said this many times when you look at the commercial sections of other cities that have lawn flowers and shrubs in front of their property it tells me something, this city looks progressive and I would like go into a business venture here it should succeed.

All, PG worries about is third avenue but look at the commercial section where all you have is asphalt for parking in front of their shops and the asphalt sidewalks throughout the city are an eyesore. Third avenue the shop keepers will not even clear the snow or scrape the old gum off the sidewalks. They want the city to do it for them. There appears to be a complete lack of pride.

The city needs to get back to basics before this big shout “we need to grow” .

Herald Moffet once said, it will all go way in the spring.
