Prince George, B.C. – If at first you don’t succeed then try again.

The expression applies well to Andrew Burton, who’s taking his second shot at obtaining a spot on the Prince George School Board after falling around 400 votes short in 2011.

He admits it was a learning experience.

“It was my first time running for anything so it was a big learning curve. It was a broad field, a lot of candidates which made it somewhat challenging.”

But Burton, who works for Northern Health and is perhaps best know for founding the Street Spirits Theatre Company, says he’s hungry for a second shot.

“I want to see things done for the benefit of the young people in the community. The School District is a place to really get things done. We want young people that have a really solid future and to do that we need to re-think how we do education.”

He says education is a lot different than it used to be noting we live “in a world where any piece of information you want can be obtained with a few key strokes.”

Burton says that means less emphasis on memorization and a shift to “create young people that have creativity and a desire to learn.”
