Prince George, B.C. – Dori Alger is running for a trustee position in District 57 because she wants to make a difference in her community.

And if elected, the UNBC and CNC graduate says her first goal would be to provide more support to the learners in the classroom.

“Especially at the entry level focusing on all learners, particularly vulnerable students but also the gifted.”

She says her inspiration for that idea is her own daughter.

“My youngest is my success story. She had some learning challenges in elementary school and they were addressed well by the teachers that were serving her. By the time she reached grade eight she had straight A’s through to grade 11 and she graduated a year early.”

Alger says she’d also like to see improvements to student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy and to provide a perspective on the board that “considers all stakeholders – parents, students, teachers and support staff.”

She has board experience as Treasurer for UNBC’s Alumni Association and is also on the board for the PG mixed volleyball league.

Alger says those experiences would come in handy with the Board of Education.

“I don’t think my learning curve is going to be that steep should I get elected. I’m a lifelong learner.”
