Cooke Seeks Re-election to School Board
Prince George, B.C. – Admitting it was a tough decision to make, Kate Cooke is seeking a second term as Trustee on the Prince George School Board.
“Yes it was a tough decision. I felt long and hard about it and waited to see who was putting their names in and after looking at the list decided I would try again.”
She says it was a difficult decision because she often felt at odds with her board colleagues in her second and third years.
“In the second and third years I’ve put forward things like a restorative budget and we would still put in a balanced budget and it hasn’t really gone anywhere.”
Cooke admits that isn’t the only time she’s been at odds with the others and admits to feeling like the lone wolf on the board.
“I have actually. There’s been many times where it’s been a 6-1 vote.”
However she says there were some successes along the way including eliminating the confidentiality clause on committee’s during the board’s first year and the LGBTQ’s anti-bullying policy last year.
But if re-elected she’s still hoping to see some new faces on the new board.
“Yes I am actually. I’m hoping for some change-ups. I think our board needs to be more progressive.”
