Another Public Shred Event
Prince George, B.C.- Get your old documents together, and prepare to shred them.
For the second time this year, CrimeStoppers has joined forces with Shred-It mobile services and Walmart, to offer you the opportunity to have those personal documents shredded.
“The biggest thing that we want to do is get personal information off the streets” says CrimeStoppers Prince George President Jack Hooper. “So much of this stuff that’s left in old files like receipts or tax forms, ends up in the garbage. Then the bad guys go through the garbage and can steal your identity.”
According to Hooper, a simple gas bill will provide enough information for a criminal to get a social insurance number, “From a social insurance card you can get a credit card and where does it go from there?”
This shredding event is not for businesses that may want to clear out private documents, it is aimed at the ordinary citizen who is looking for a safe way to clear out old personal files.
The event starts at 10 tomorrow morning and runs until 2 p.m. at the front entrance of Walmart. The cost to have your documents shredded is by donation and all proceeds go towards the CrimeStoppers Society in Prince George. The dollars used to fund anonymous tips that lead to arrests or convictions.
