PG Restaurants Dim the Lights for Candlelight Dinner
Prince George, B.C. – A trio of Prince George restaurants plan to dim the lights tonight for BC Hydro’s annual Candlelight Dinner.
The yearly event aims to demonstrate how a simple “flick of the switch” can make a big difference in saving energy.
One local eatery taking part is the Shiraz Cafe and Restaurant in Parkwood Mall.
Owner Reza Akbari, who obtained his Masters Degree by focusing on the concept of owning a green restaurant, says positive activities like this is part of his restaurants overall mission.
“This is definitely something that would help send the message in terms of saving energy and how important it is to today and tomorrow’s generation.”
And although BC Hydro suggests energy savings will be relatively small and difficult to measure for this event, Akbari says it has the potential to make a big difference down the road.
“If every restaurant picked one night a week then in the big picture there would be a large savings.”
He says he’ll also be asking his customers to avoid using their electronic devices for the duration of their meals.
“We want to create a classic ambience for the night. We won’t enforce that but we’re hoping for cooperation for a couple of hours.”
The other two PG restaurants participating tonight are North 54 Restaurant and The Twisted Cork.
