Parliament Hill Gunman Not on RCMP Radar

Thursday, October 23, 2014 @ 1:38 PM

Prince George, B.C.- RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson says  the gunman who   killed  Corporal Nathan Cirillo  and  attacked Parliament was not  on their radar .

In a news conference , Commissioner Paulson says  Michael Zehaf- Bibeau  may have had  joint citizenship with Libya,  but was not linked with the  attack on Monday which saw a  Canadian Forces member  killed when he  was  struck by a vehicle.  That attack also listed as a terrorist attack.

Paulson says Zehaf-Bibeau  had  applied for a passport “We have learned through the current  investigation that he has been  in Ottawa since October 2, and was hoping to  leave for Syria.”  The passport was still in the process of being evaluated.  The Commissioner  also says Zehaf-Bibeau had connections with someone known to  the RCMP.  “We need to understand what that connection is,   this individual’s email was in the hard drive of someone we have charged.”

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau says Zehaf-Bibeau was staying in a shelter in Ottawa and a duffle bag belonging to him has been seized but would not reveal the nature of the contents of that duffle bag.

Commissioner Paulson says the firearm used in the attack yesterday was a .30-.30 lever action rifle.  He says how Zehaf-Bibeau got the firearm is part of the investigation as  Zehaf-Bibeau was banned from  possessing firearms.  Commissioner Paulson also revealed the investigation has shown that Zehaf-Bibeau had shot Corporal Cirillo twice, and fired at the other guard at the war Memorial, but missed.

Zehaf-Bibeau then drove to Parliament Hill where he hijacked a  Minister’s  car,  drove to the  MP’s entrance,  and  exchange dgunfire with security there as he entered the building.  A video  shared by Commissioner Paulson  shows these events, and that RCMP were in hot pursuit  as  Zehaf-Bibeau  exited the  Minister’s car and headed into the Parliament building.

Police are confident Zehaf-Bibeau acted alone.

Ottawa Chief of Police, Charles Bordeleau says while  there is increased security in Ottawa,   all  residents must  remain vigilant and called on  residents to  report anything suspicious. He says the area around the National War Memorial is cordoned off, but will reopen soon.

I read that US Intelligence first released his name to the media. Why should Canadian public get access to his identity through American sources? This is strange.

Her mother was affiliated to the Harper government and the deputy chair of the immigration committee at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Did Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) do a background check on her and her family when she was appointed. Was a red flag raised when her son was arrested or when her husband (or ex) came back from Libya fighting along Jihadist groups?

Witnesses in the shelter (that he stayed ) say that he left with 2 other young Canadians with whom he discussed religion and prayed. One named Duncan. Who is this Duncan fellow and where is he now? I will be surprised if Duncan and the other chap didn’t know about his plans.

And to think there are a few bleeding heart organizations that are demanding Canada accept thousands of refugees from the middle east.

How is a homeless person wanting to go to Syria not on their radar? Strange story….
