Prince George, B.C. – One of the worst kept political secrets was finally made official today as Todd Doherty announced his plans to seek the Conservative Party nomination in the Cariboo-Prince George riding.
“I’ve wanted to shout this opportunity out from the highest mountains for a few months” proclaimed Doherty to a full room at the Coast Inn of the North early this afternoon.
Fresh from his role as revenue director at the Canada Winter Games, Doherty told the audience he’s the man for the job.
“I’ve got the background. I’ve been representing our region and our nation on the world stage for a long time. I’ve already been doing that in Ottawa and Victoria.”
He says that includes pushing for better air service development (while working for PG Airport & Edmonton International Airport) tourism opportunities and marketing.
Doherty was endorsed at the meeting by outgoing MP Dick Harris which Doherty calls “important for me” pointing out Harris has brought $2.4 billion worth of projects to the region during his 21 years in office.
He said he was running to provide a strong “voice at a critical point,” and to “advocate about issues important to our region.”
Doherty also made reference to the tough nomination race ahead.
“I don’t like to lose but I don’t count anybody out. At the end of the day it’s memberships sold and the people that show up to vote,” that will make the difference.
Other confirmed candidates for the nomination include Nick Fedorkiw and Gerald Caron. Prince George Mayor Shari Green and businessman T.J. Grewal are expected to jump in the race as well.

let the politicing begin….I would rather use other words but I have been told it is politics not fibbing.
Polifibbing? Fibbiticking?
I had the impression that Shari Green had it wrapped up. I guess not if Dick Harris is endorsing somebody else.
If Shari Green would like the conservatives to win this riding she should not consider putting her name forward. I for one will not vote for her.
The right and the hard right are split, so who will sign up the most memberships and give a hug to the Harper boy
Todd has my votes. We have to send scary Shari packing.
“I’ve got the background”……seriously Todd ?
Can we still sign up as a Conservative just to stop Ms. Green from getting this nomination?
Greens track record speaks for it’s self.. She has proven time and time again she should not be in politics. She will not win the nomination for the seat, she would lose to empty cardboard box .
Green hasn’t entered the race. So for now we should be comparing Nick Fedorkiw’s resume to Doherty’s.
If everybody agrees that Green would be a poor choice, so would be Doherty, ex this and ex that. Check out Fedorkiw, a well rounded candidate, best man for the job.
Not sure what your point is Philomena. Most people come with a career resume including Mr Fedorkiw. I do agree however that he’s a good fellow and people should listen to what he has to say. I see some decent candidates in this race, Doherty and Fedorkiw being at the top of my list. Mr Caron is a very nice man but lacks political insight. Green/Stolz and Grewal quite frankly I have no use for, sorry your money is not going to buy this seat!
@ Digitus Impudicus Ah yes, Mr. Smith! The infamous wannabe spin master, trying to change the “conversation” Just go away, nobody cares what you have to say!
@Cicero I agree that Doherty and Fedorkiw are the only ones who could actually win the Election in 2015. Both Green and Grewal have a truckload of “baggage” and not the good type. The media will slay them if either actually made it to the big event. Mr. Caron is a nice person who has little public experience and has no profile throughout the Riding, so cannot be seriously considered IMO.
So at this time, that leaves Fedorkiw and Doherty, and I think that Doherty’s public recognition factor is miles ahead of Fedorkiw’s not withstanding Fedorkiw is a decent guy. I am sure a lot of Harris’ supporters did not appreciate Fedorkiw coming out and stating he would challenge for the nomination whether Harris runs or not. This is not good political savvy. I am thinking that any Harris supporter that might have been thinking Fedorkiw, just might have changed their minds given Fedorkiw’s proclamation.
So I wish Doherty a good campaign and much success, and anyone who wants to support him should get in touch and get behind him.
And that’s my opinion for what it’s worth…..
Like what I hear from Mr. Fedorkiw. Interesting resume with both financial and green resource sector experience. Bears giving consideration..
And heres my opinion. Why would anyone support the dictatorship we have in Ottawa. I see we are going down the same oldn road of whats sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
Cheers
@HAS… Yes I certainly agree that everyone should take the time to consider ALL of the options. That’s the only way one can be satisfied that
they have made a prudent decision.
Retired 02:- “Why would anyone support the dictatorship we have in Ottawa?”
Why, Retired 02? Because what’s currently available as their replacements in Ottawa are more than likely to be infinitely worse, that’s why.
It’ll be that way until Canadians finally realise their politicians are going to give them exactly what they ask for.
After those who really control those politicians continue to thoroughly condition Canadians to constantly ask for the wrong thing, that is.
If we want to ask for more ‘jobs’, for instance, instead of ‘incomes’ adequate enough to fully afford what we need, and want, and are already ‘physically’ more than capable of providing for everyone, then more ‘jobs’ are exactly what we’ll get.
And if a lot of them, maybe even most of them nowadays, are jobs in which there’s little or no interest on the part of the employee in even having save for his or her necessity to get an ‘income’, as they so clearly often are, well, that’s just too bad. For it was ‘jobs’ that we asked for, and that’s what will be delivered.
And when it come right down to it, Harper’s method of delivering those ‘jobs’, (even though his focus should properly be on ‘incomes’ instead ~ and might be if we asked for what it is we REALLY want) ~ is likely to be still better than what his opponents are offering. Where the already collectively inadequate incomes from them would be removed from you in taxation ever faster, with even less of real value to show for it to each of us as individuals.
Yo Cicero….if I have to spell it out for you. From what I have seen, heard and know….Mr. Fedorkiw is by far the superior candidate in this race. And that includes the ones that we are speculating will join the race. Get it ?
Apologies Digitus Impudicus but your attack on Doherty was more Green/Stolzish, than it needed to be! I’ve asked both Fedorkiw and Doherty what they thought about each other and they both had very kind words. Speaks to good character for both gentlemen in my opinion.
