Sod Laying On Fresh Snow Okay

Sunday, October 26, 2014 @ 10:44 AM

Prince George- The owner , operator of Salmon Valley Sod, Charlie Shields , says it is okay to lay sod this late in the year.

The question was raised after 250News had received concerns the City of sod Prince George  was laying sod on Dundee Crescent early Sunday morning on fresh snow.

Shields says ” I cut some sod last week , if you don’t lay it on frozen ground, it will pick up where it left off in the spring”. That thought was echoed by Wilma Van Hage, of Art Knapp’s who said her experience has been that the sod will go dormant and will pick up again in the spring.

The City was laying the sod to cover off areas along a number of streets where a new sewer extension had taken place .

So people called and complained to the media about this? Hahahahahaha. People should research more rather than complain about something that isn’t even remotely concerning to them.

“The question was raised” – Curious and questioning minds usually precedes learning and new or newly shared knowledge. Interesting story.

I think the inquirery was legit… I sure don’t want ot have to pay for sod twice….but since it is okay all is good.

After all it wouldn’t be the first time our fair city had, or could have in this case, wasted money.

Kudos to the person who asked the question and for 250 News answering it.

Search laying sod and the gardening sites all say the same thing:
“Sod can be laid at any time during the growing season
as long as it will be maintained until established”

Instead of being a busybody, look it up. Try Google.

It’s a little too obvious why 250 “received concerns” that the city was laying sod in this weather.
As 250 News is widely known for their vast knowledge of laying sod and related matters, its the obvious choice.
The “news” items and comments on 250 News are never posted with the intention of catching the city workers making mistakes or doing something unpopular.
……Just another potential opportunity to hit the easy targets in public view.
