PG School Board Pays Teachers’ for Prep Day
Prince George, B.C. – A class move.
The words of Prince George & District Teachers’ Association president Tina Cousins in regards to the PG School Board’s move to pay teachers’ for work they performed on September 19th.
That was the day teachers’ spent preparing their classrooms for the resumption of school September 22nd after the lengthy teachers strike.
PGDTA president Tina Cousins says 48 of 60 districts’ have settled the matter and called the move locally “a good will and good faith gesture” adding “they really stuck their necks out for us.”
She says the reason some districts’ haven’t beeen paid is complicated because there are 60 different collective agreements and each of them have their own way of addressing missed days of work.
Further to that trustee Trish Bella brought forth a motion last night in support of a letter sent September 19th by the BC School Trustees Association to the provincial government.
It “strongly encourages” the provincial government to honour its commitment “against the ill will and negative impact of not funding that day.”
Board Chairperson Sharel Warrington says the board will send a letter this week in support of last night’s motion.

Would you want your kids in Tina’s classroom?
She probably ignores the kids and plots her Union bs on the job.
Why would anybody think this was a cynical attempt, by those up for re-election, to try and secure a few votes?
Why would anyone work a day and not expect to be paid for it?
Why would an employer expect not to pay someone that has worked a day for them?
Exactly! Just like an employer shouldn’t have to pay them if they don’t LRB agreed with that. Besides, I thought teachers, being the absolute martyrs they are, work for free without need or requirement for remuneration, all the time. Isn’t it just impossible to fit all that work into a 8:30 to 3:00pm day.
don’t show all your intellect all at once J.H………….. NO ONE WORKS FOR FREE
from the remarks and sounds of you mud digger i sure as hell wouldn’t want my kids around you

Is there any proof that all those people now getting paid for that day actually put in a full day?
Actually Ice, since I am clearly capable of collating all of my thoughts and presenting them within a complete sentence, I would suggest that my “intellect” is more than sufficient. Give it a try.
lIldigger- My kids had Tina as their teacher, she was fantastic! My kids were happy to go to school and always came home with great things to share about their day. She was very positive and went out of her way to make sure that her class had an enriched environment to learn in. She even went so far as to come to our home on a weekend to talk to our child about some problems that had occurred at the school, spending several hours on a Sunday making sure that the issue was resolved and my child was ready to return to school. You don’t see that every day.
Axman, I am sure you work diligently from the time work starts to its go home time, never waste a second chatting or spending time giving your opinion on here during work hours.. The perfect employee, congrats to you, you are the only one in the entire world.

I’m retired so I spend my days doing as I please. But, when I did work you can rest assured that if I got paid for an 8 hour day I sure as hell worked an 8 hour day.
It was a paid day off for most teachers
I was at my daughter’s school that day. I met with her teacher. Everyone in that building was definitely working hard. They were all trying to set up blank slate classrooms. That actually does take effort and they usually have much more time to do it. The teachers were harried, to say the least.
So Axeman no time for lunch, full out, hair back on fire for the full 8 hours, ya I bet.
“It was a paid day off for most teachers” Not the ones I know.
