Prince George, B.C.-  The Legion, Branch 43 in Prince George, has officially launched its poppy campaign in Prince George.

At a ceremony this morning at the Pine Centre mall,  MLA Shirley Bond joined  Legion officials to  mark the start of the annual fundraising event.

The Legion’s Bruce Gabriel says  about 50 volunteers will be in the community  offering poppys.  While no donation is necessary,  all proceeds from the campaign  go towards helping veterans and their families for things like wheelchairs and hospital beds as well as  support for veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)..

In the wake of recent events in Canada, it is anticipated this year’s campaign will be brisk.  Last year, the campaign raised $80 thousand dollars.
