Azar Puts the Bite on Crime
Prince George, B.C. – Police Service Dog “Azar” sprung into action yesterday, nabbing a suspect in a break and enter.
RCMP say they were called to a Brock Drive address just before 3 yesterday afternoon to attend a Break and Enter in progress.
General Duty officers and a Police Dog Service Team attended the area. As the Police Service Dog handler approached a window of the residence and announced “Police”, a male suspect in the residence pointed a handgun at the officer.
A short time later, the male suspect exited the house in an attempt to flee. ‘Azar’ went to work, the suspect was apprehended and was taken to the University Hospital of Northern BC for treatment of bite wounds.
A search warrant was obtained for the residence. During the search, a loaded .22 caliber handgun was located. No other persons were in the residence.
25 year old Eric Joseph Heidemann is in custody and is facing the following charges:
- Break & Enter
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of Break-in Instruments
- Possession of a Prohibited Weapon while Unlicenced
- Possession of a Restricted Firearm
- Fail to Comply with a Probation Order (2 counts)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm
- Resist Arrest
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
Heidemann is scheduled to appear in court again on November 4th. According to the RCMP Heidemann is on conditions not to be in Prince George stemming from a Weapons and Unlawful Confinement related incident in February 2012.
