Saxena a Newcomer to Politics
Prince George, B.C -Ravi Saxena, says he will set himself apart in this election, “Prince George has been good to me home and family and now it is my turn to give something back.”
He says the job is more important than the hours spent doing it and is determined to work hard.
“First we have to go for a cost effective and balanced budget”.
fiscal responsibility is not his only platform plank, he says he is also pushing for a safe and secure future for the younger generation and in order to do that, the City’s image has to be changed from being the crime capital of Canada.
“We have to diversify our youth” says Saxena, if we are going to steer them away from a drug culture. “I think we should have more focus on the youth as they are the future.” He says there needs to be more direction for youth, while recognizing the issues are primarily the responsibilities of provincial and federal governments, but says it should be brought to the forefront so the senior levels of government are aware of the concerns.
He calls for a return to the basics, making sure the city has road repairs and snow removal.
When it comes to roads and snow , he says the front line workers should be consulted as Prince George should be “top line” when it comes to snow removal and should be the example for other winter cities to follow. “They are the front line, they are the one who know what is practical”.
He says the Mayor’s leadership “is important for us”. “We have to work together to build a cleaner and prosperous Prince George”.
He says he would like to see all the social services downtown placed in one location. “Downtown is the heritage of all in the community.”
He supports giving downtown businesses a ten year tax break, provided they hire locally.
He says the city has to be more transparent, and more open.
He says there needs to be more done to attract investment to the city. He says when he first came to Prince George, he came with the impression Prince George was not a good place to be, but since being here, he has learned “It is very friendly and very loving people” live here.
He says nothing should be compromised when it comes to Police needs as it will assist in improving the city’s image of being a safe place to live.

All the social services downtown placed in one location, NOT IN RESIDENTIAL. There is a lot of double book keeping going on with the social services downtown.
Bitter-> You, Candidate Saxena and others advocating for “all social services to be located in one area downtown” need to be more specific and articulate in your arguments. Take a look at the dictionary definition of ‘social services’ provided below. I don’t think you really mean that all of these services can be provided downtown. Also, the consensus of current thinking is to improve the quality of the downtown by increasing the residential units available in the downtown core.
DEFINITION OF SOCIAL SERVICES
Benefits and facilities such as education, food subsidies, health care, and subsidized housing provided by a government to improve the life and living conditions of the children, disabled, the elderly, and the poor in the national community.

I like his idea about locating all the social services under one roof, but how is he realistically going to implement that? Is he going to coordinate the move? Force all of the services (most Provincially run) to come together? Find a suitable location? Get it zoned properly?
Nice idea, but there’s no way it would ever happen.
Lots of vague ideas about things he can’t control, but not enough about what he would do about the things he can.
I would like to commend Ravi Saxena for running for Council it’s not easy to put yourself out there. The comment about all the social service agencies being put downtown, I know that’s not possible nor a good Idea. The point I was trying to make was don’t move the problems into Residential areas.
