Wood Stove Exchange Program Funded Again

Prince George, B.C. – It’s back.
The wood stove exchange program is ready to roll out for another year, hoping folks will replace their inefficient air pollution causing old models, for a new, cleaner burning appliance.
The rebate is now $250 dollars from the province, and $250 from the Regional District, and there are fewer rebates to be offered in the Prince George and Fraser Fort George Regional District.
In all, there will be just 37 rebates given in this region. That’s down from the 44 issued last year, and only half of what had been requested.
Here’s the real problem.
People have been adding their names to waiting lists at the approved retailers, and now there will have to be some way of determining how many rebate vouchers will go to each retailer. Will it be a first come first served scenario, or will it be as even a split as can be made among the four approved retailers in Prince George?
Of the 37 available rebates, 30% are reserved for those who live outside the City limits but in the Regional District of Fraser George. The balance will be available for those who live within the City limits.
The exact dates for the program have yet to be announced.
Since 2008, the wood stove exchange program has seen 307 old wood stoves in Prince George and area exchanged for new efficient models.
Update:
Further to our story of earlier this week, we have now been advised the program will start on November 15th and each of the four retailers will be given 8 vouchers each, another 5 will be kept at the PG AIR office.
