Prince George, B.C. – This year’s poppy campaign in Prince George may raise the most money ever.
Legion Zone Commander John Scott says so far they’ve counted $63,000 and notes they haven’t even retrieved all their poppy boxes yet.
He says they should have a preliminary total by the end of this week but says it will be a few weeks before they release their final total.
“We still have wreaths we’ve sold and a lot of those are paid by cheque which take a while to come in and get cashed.”
Last year over $80,000 was raised and he suspects they may surpass that this year.
“Prince George is very generous. I don’t know though how much better than can do.”

It’s interesting to note that the Salvation Army feels it’s revenue is down because people don’t carry cash. And yet…
I felt bad as I walked around yesterday because I don’t ever carry cash or coins of any kind for any reason…
I guess I’ll have to try to remember in the future…
I always support them every year but this weekend at the mall was a little crazy. They were on every corner and isle. It was a little suffocating.
