As a result of recent developments, Russia has signed a major gas deal with China which closes that market to the future LNG products from BC.
Let EU lead in Ukraine, Canadian defense is already over stretched fighting ISIS in middle east. Harper will win more Ukrainian-Canadian votes in upcoming election for sure, but agitating Putin in a public manner will hurt Ukraine more.

Canada can share its federal experience with Ukraine and encourage them to adopt a Quebec style federalism for Russian speaking regions in Ukraine instead of acting dumb by adding fuel to a war in which Ukraine has no chance of victory and losing more territory.
