Demolition of old Norgate Autobody  on 6th  Avenue is underway – photo 250News

Prince George, B.C.- The demolition of the  old Norgate Autobody  building  on 6th Avenue,  east of George Street in Prince George, is underway.

In a cloud of dust,  one of the  walls came tumbling down,  and   a piece of the roof   flattened the security fence  that has been set up  on the perimeter of the property.

The site   is being cleared  for use as a parking lot   during the Canada Winter Games.

The site is  the preferred  location for a Performing Arts Centre in Prince George, although  there is no  funding available to  go through with that project at the moment.

Earlier  this month, the old Ed Delorme garage on this block was also demolished.

The demolition of the old Norgate building  has taken longer than  that of its  former neighbour (the Delorme building)  as  asbestos  in the  structure  needed to be  removed  before any other work could proceed.

Gotta make way for the PAC we can’t afford.

Isn’t it amazing how much stuff that has sat around for so long gets dealt with when the winter games is arriving shortly….
I’m convinced that this would necer be getting done otherwise…. or like Fate suggests the PAC is about to get built… and that wouldn’t suprise me either.

Now that this is done, I think something should be done about the old white warehouses that line 1st Avenue at the end of Queensway.

Four Seasons pool location maybe the site for the PAC but that was before Greens backers got blown out the door.

seamut – Don’t hold your breath – the pool and the coliseum could be on the list – there is 4 years of council.

More wasted money, why not just use the foundation of the defunct hotel project for the awards? Lots of parking there as well.

So, during an air quality event, no burning, no sweeping, but it’s ok to demolish a building less than two blocks from where they take the AQ readings. Really??

Just a few more years of right wing neglect will produce taxpayer funding for new venues like it did for our new Taj Mahal police station.
