Twitter Town Hall Discusses Transportation Plan
Prince George, B.C. – BC’s 10 year transportation plan was discussed during a Twitter town hall tonight.
It was hosted by Transportation Minister Todd Stone and dozens took part with a heavy emphasis on BC Ferries and Lower Mainland issues.
250 News asked for the province’s plans for four laning Highway’s 16 & 97 but the minister did not have time to answer the question.
Stone did comment however that regional airports provide huge economic impact in communities and will be a focus of the plan which is expected to be unveiled early next year.
He also confirmed he’ll be taking action on so called “left lane hogs” by passing “Keep Right Except to Pass” legislation by next spring.
If you’d like to provide feedback on the plan you’re invited to take part in the following government survey at http://engage.gov.bc.ca/transportationplan/

deflect, deflect, take no responsibility for anything, dont make any hard (read not popular) decisions.
This right winger Todd Stone might suggest closing Hwy 16 and 97 and want to reroute all traffic through out the north, on all available gravel FS roads. Of course there will be a nominal charge for that.
Taking action on “left lane hogs”. Too fn funny. Shows were Liberal priorities are.
Hey Todd Stone…..you’re still wet behind the ears son.
I think someone has his tin hat screwed on too tight. He’s starting to imagine new even more off the wall conspiracies.
Makes for good comedy though. Lol
BC plated “left lane hogs” are getting ticketed south of the border, enough to alert media to the problem BC drivers have for “rules of the road”
Just like cell phones and slow down and move left for stopped emergency vehicles, or even pull over for emergency vehicles as they approach. Some people just need to have it spelled out in legislation before they do the common sense thing the old laws “implied”.
You cant be a leader if you operate on the basis of **Monkey see Monkey do**.
Who cars what they do South of the border. Why would you need legislation to get people to drive in the right lane?? Have we not been driving for 100 years??? Where are all the high paid police who are supposed to be patrolling the highways, and ensuring that traffic moves in a efficient manner.
When was the last time you saw a patrol car actually doing some work on our Highways. More ticket writing, and a little education, would get results much faster than passing some **phony** legislation.
Seems they are going to ignore the North when it comes to spending any money on roads. So, what else is new??
Why cant Rustad, Bond, Morris, get us some money for roads???. Why do we not get a Minister from this area, with some authority. Why are we being allotted nothing more than a twitter town hall, meeting with a green horn Minister.
Palopu – maybe Michelle Marrelli – Liberal campaign manager for Rustad/Bond (Hall)could contact them on behalf of the the people in the north!!!
But wait – according to today’s Citizen -Frizzell is off to Ottawa as a FCM board member and maybe will he is talking it up with Peru/Columbia on a fair share agreement on mining – he could ask if those 2 countries would be willing to invest in the roads for the North for some perks!!
Why do we need officers south of the border teaching our drivers how to drive according to our laws? We need legislation because although there is already an Act on the books that covers “keep right except to pass” it is vague and there are too many drivers that “think” they know how to drive and what rules they need to follow as well as those they can ignore or make up as they go along.

They are not copying the US, there are already keep right rules on the books. Adding a clearer definition will help people like you who hate to admit you were doing it wrong all these years.
If you are referring to the town hall aspect, it is part of the governments get in touch with the voters plan. They already used it in rewriting the Liquor legislation.
Keep right except to pass.
I drive in the left lane 90% of the time but my first rule is courtesy. If there is someone on my tail I move over. Yeah its annoying when you have some old girl in the left lane at 5 km below the speed limite but she will move over or leave the left lane so whas the hurry?
Also remember that if you need to make a left turn you should too be in that lane at least a block or so before you make that turn to avoid cutting someone off at the last minute.
They cant enforce the laws for bad drivers so how will they enforce such a stupid rule?
Cheers
I was recently down in the lower mainland and had occasion to drive across the line down to Seattle.
I had some very interesting observations. On my way south from downtown Vancouver i would say the majority of the drivers ignored the keep right except to pass signs and basically just carried on their merry way in the left lane. Now some of them were traveling at 5 to 10 K over the limit, but a lot of them were doing 5 to 10 k under the limit. As you can imagine this caused a lot of people to move to the right lane to pass and then back to the left.
Once I crossed the line, one of the first signs seen on the highway is Keep Right Except to Pass. The difference is that in Washington State, the state troopers enforce this rule and I immediately noticed traffic moving as it should. Slower traffic on the right, and people pulling into the left lane to pass, getting some clearance, and then moving back over to the right lane. The only left lane hogs that I saw were sporting BC Plates!
I found it amazing that the only difference between one side of the border and the other was enforcement, yet traffic moved so much more efficiently!
Yep those Americans sure know how its done.
Cheers
