Emergency responders help woman -photo 250News
Prince George, B.C. – Emergency responders converged at the south end of the Cameron Street Bridge in Prince George this afternoon after a police officer reported seeing a person in the Nechako River.
Turns out there was a woman in the river. Emergency responders pulled her from the frigid water, and she has been transported to hospital where she is being treated for mild hypothermia.
RCMP media Liaison Corporal Craig Douglass says the woman had gone into the water to rescue her dog, a Rottweiler-German Shepherd cross.
(at right, woman is wrapped in blankets as emergency responders make it up the hill to the ambulance)
She ended up swimming across the Nechako , but there is no sign of her dog.
The Nechako River is extremely low at this time of year and it is possible the dog travelled downstream and was able to make it to shore in Cottonwood Island Park, or one of the gravel bars that are now exposed .
RCMP are patrolling the area, looking for the animal with hopes of a happy ending to this story.

The river seems lower than usual or is it just me….
Yes its pretty low. I think its because of the hot summer. No snow left in the mountains after end of July, early August. So, no snow in Mountains, so water in river.
If we don’t get a lot of snow this winter, and have another hot summer there could be some water issues.
The level of the water is controlled by Rio Tinto Allan at the spillway and they are hoarding it in case of a dry winter. Been living on the river for years and this is the lowest I have ever seen it.
I agree Livingonwater.
Thanks for tying up a lot of valuable resources, so you could rescue your Rottweiler and put your life in jeopardy…

This guy goes well beyond “dick”.
I had heard that last winter’s snow pack in the basin feeding the Nechako was 18% of normal, if that is the case, I could see that explaining the low water….
Agreed axmam. Does anyone know if the dog was found?
