Liquor Policy Changes to Benefit Ski Hills & Golf Courses
Prince George, B.C. – Victoria has announced more changes to the province’s liquor laws.
The new measures are set to go into effect next month and will ease licensing restrictions for golf courses and skill hills.
Starting December 9th, both golf courses and ski hills can apply for a single licence which covers up to 26 events in a calendar year rather than having to apply and pay separately for each extension.
Previously businesses were forced to make one-off temporary changes at a cost of $330 each time with a maximum of six per year.
Also effective December 9th the government will be waiving licence amendment fees making it easier for liquor primary establishments to offer more all-age events such as concerts and dances.
Erica Hummel, CEO of Tourism Prince George, welcomes the changes:
“I think the tourism industry has reason to rejoice today. Definitely ski hills and golf courses will be extremely happy to hear that their application process for making their licensing area larger for special events is much easier now. It’s a streamlined process and less costly.”
She says the changes will also be an incentive for ski hills and golf courses to hold more weddings and special events.
“Absolutely. There’s often time limits for staff to manage any kind of coordinating events. So to take any of the legwork out of the picture and make it easier and more efficient for them to do that the better.”

Ah yes, let’s make the real gateway drug more availiable.
Go back to your 1950’s church basement Pastor P Val.
Dow7501, let me guess, you are one of the ignorant that thinks pot is the gateway drug.
It’s teetotalers like PVal & Dow7501 that are keeping PG in the dark ages and whining every time there’s a request for a new entertainment venue … if you want to attract young talented workers to contribute to the city and tax base you need to have a healthy nightlife …. that’s why are population is decreasing …. maybe you don’t remember, but we used the have the same population as Kamloops which is now at 98,000. Dow7501, you don’t even make sense; nowhere in this story did anyone mention “pot” or gateway drugs. The story states they are going to ease the regulations so that golf & ski hills don’t have to apply separately for every event at considerable cost to the business; rather, the license will not allow up to 26 events which will save them money; it didn’t say that there was no license prior to this or that no alcohol was consumed there prior to this. Read the entire story before you get on your soapbox and stick to the contents of the story.
R5t5e……dork….Did you even read my comments …..your preaching to the choir. Take a puck size valium ..deep breaths..
R5t5e4m6c -> Sorry laddie, but the nightlife decline is not why PG has had a stagnant population for 30+ years … the stagnation is caused by a lack of high paying JOBS … take a look around … increased use of technology in mills and in the bush is reducing job opportunities along declining fibre base due to beetle kill and long term harvesting levels reducing forestry opportunities … combine that with a changing demographic of an aging work force along with fewer kids per family and you have a recipe for a static or declining population … so it is not likely that an easier liquor policy for ski hills and golf courses will help with population growth … or improve the night life
Now we’ll have to watch out for drunk skiers too???
This might save Pine Valley!
