Province Issues Environmental Assessment Certificates to Trio of LNG Projects

Wednesday, November 26, 2014 @ 3:43 AM

Prince George, B.C. –  Three LNG  projects have  crossed another  hurdle  on their  pathway to  construction.

Provincial Environmental Assessment certificates have been issued to:

  • Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission pipeline: A $7.5 billion dollar project that would see the construction and operation of up to two 860 km natural gas pipelines from an area 100 kms northwest of Ft. St. John to a new LNG terminal being proposed at Ridley Island near Prince Rupert.
  • Pacific NorthWest LNG export facility in Prince Rupert: An $11.4 billion dollar project that would see the construction and operation of an LNG export facility on Lelu Island and near water lots in the Port of Prince Rupert.
  • Prince Rupert Gas Transmission pipeline: A $5 billion dollar pipeline that would carry natural gas from an area near the District of Hudson’s Hope to the Pacific NorthWest LNG export facility in Prince Rupert.

Each project  faces conditions attached to the permit and each  proposed  route or design changes  during the environmental assessment process.  Each project will still have to obtain federal provincial and local government permits before they can proceed.  The Pacific NorthWest  LNG facility is also undergoing a federal environmental assessment.

I am sure this surprises no one.
Clark and the Liberals have been cuddly with, or it seems to me,in bed with the LNG companies, for some time now.

Oil pipeline next?

Um, did you not follow the provincial election, her whole platform was based on LNG so of course this isn’t a surprise to anyone.

Huh, her platform was FAMILIES FIRST and she abandoned that immediatley after she was elected…
at least she can now take her child with her when she goes out drinking.

I guess the LNG political DONATIONS have paid dividends.

Families first was her platform when she took over from Campbell, this last election was all about building the economy through LNG.

It is going to be a long tenure with Christy at the helm of this province and that riles dippers so much. Isn’t failing to unseat a corrupt incompetent government a real buzz kill? Doesn’t leave the average dipper much to hope for, other than the rise of the Green Party.

Wow. Environmental assessments issued, with conditions. How many years did that take?

“Each project will still have to obtain federal provincial and local government permits before they can proceed.”

A few more years to go. Gotta love bureaucracy.

The reality is that we need these kinds of projects (and the jobs that come with them) to continue funding things like social programs.

Too bad the people like the ones out on Burnaby Mountain fail to make this connection.

We have paid for social programs for years, before we got into this LNG garbage. Medicare as an example is paid for out of our Income Tax, and of course monthly fee’s.

Are we getting some new social programs that require more money????

I have an idea, let’s tie the provincial social services budget to the revenue generated by royalties on Oil and Gas as well as the revenues that all of the proposed pipelines will generate for government. Meaning that if that revenue increases then the budget for welfare increases as well. Of course with the two tied together the opposite would be true as well. Do you think the majority of those protesters up on the mountain would be there if they knew that they were causing their monthly handout to be reduced??
Just a thought! LOL

Palopu: “Are we getting some new social programs that require more money????”

The cost of goverment and social services isn’t going down any time soon. The money has to come from somewhere, usually taxpayers. If there are no jobs, there’s no taxpayers to foot the bill. Since BC’s economy relies heavily on the resoource industry, we should be doing everything we can to support it.

Ask yourself how many social programs we have now vs. your day back in the 50’s and 60’s.

Palpou, bed time.
