City Into Full Snow Removal Mode

Thursday, November 27, 2014 @ 9:05 AM

Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George  has moved  to  “full snow removal operations.”

Earlier in the week, the City had cleared  snow from the  Hart region, the only area of the City  on Monday to receive  the   required  7.5 centimeters of snow before plows would be sent out. But now,  crews will be turning their attention to the  full City.

Crews with the City of Prince George worked throughout the night to maintain Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes and problem hills in a passable condition.

Sidewalk machines have been out throughout the night, and will remain out clearing City sidewalks.

Crews will keep working on those Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes and problem hills until the current  snow event is officially over.

Once the snow stops falling,  crews will clear all Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes within 48 hours.  Then they will  turn their attention to the  Priority 3 routes (residential streets) and will  have  them cleared  within 72 hours  of  the completion of work on Priority  1 and 2 routes.

Be very careful at the location of the new angle parking beside the hospital in front of the ambulance station. Curbs stick out into the road way and can not be seen under the snow. Turns out it is a hospital responsibility. Wonder if there will be damage claims if there are direct them to the hospital.

Drove from PG to Quesnel this morning. HMC has done a great job on the highway from Hixon South. YRB on the North side of Hixon, don’t know, saw no signs of a plow and the highway was a mess

No applause for a job well done.
Cheers

I totally enjoyed the CKPG new coverage from the City Roads Supervisor listing all the equipment that the city ready to go. Quite funny ten graders and I forget how many front end loaders and six sidewalk plows…

The city doesn’t own 10 graders and has only 3 sidewalk plows and for front end loaders that count is more than likely out as well. I just can’t believe the level of BS some people think we should accept from City Management (this doesn’t include the actual city staff that physically do the actual work).

As for the clearing plan, it doesn’t look like it is that effective this morning. I thought the plan was to clear downtown during the evening and early morning then switch to arterial routes and residential during the day time. Huh…. Well it’s winter in Prince George (more of the same). Be safe out there folks and watch out for the bipeds wearing dark colors, they tend to think you can stop on a dime when they jump off the sidewalk in front of you.

The City actually leases and hires outside equipment and operators to compliment their own equipment.
As for clearing downtown…it snowed overnight…did you expect they would be wizzing around waiting for it, or catching it as it fell??
Let’s give them the opportunity to prove themselves before we start hacking on them like we did last year!

After the gong show last year I think having a gallows built and ready to go will serve as a warning we will not accept that cluster**** again.

The big concrete plinth beside the civic center would be a good place to erect it, just sitting there serving no practical pourpose anyway.

purpose

I heard the concrete ‘pour’ was off so pourpose may be correct. ☻

And for the guy jogging in the street and NOT getting out of the traveled portion of the road when traffic comes by, you are setting a real stupid example for our kids. There are brainless wonders everywhere.

I was really impressed to see grader and plow on Ospika at 8 this morning, got my hopes up for the winter.
Now, if only Environment Canada can have a chat with Mother Nature about shutting off the down spout…………..

Always need to give the snow removal a chance at the start of the winter. I still believe we will see the best removal ever due to the winter games. I just hope that the person in charge of snow removal doesn’t rely on the weather to melt snow so we don’t need to plow…seems like that’s whats has been happening last few years.. And the results sucked.. Huge ruts etc.

Grizzly, I agree, I see joggers on the road lots and they think they can run two three people wide. They are ignorant and think the road is theirs. It will get worse as the sidewalks get bad. Joggers don’t win against vehicles, if they slip or fall they are toast, kind of funny for people so worried about being in shape they would risk their lives for it. Also bike riders, please wear something so we see you, all black doesn’t work. A flashing light or something so,you stand out would be appreciated. Saw a biker almost get hit due to early morning and he was all black. Not sure who was driving the suv but their driving saved injuries or death of the biker.

Thank god for YRB keeping the main arteries clear. City plows? well looking outside says it all. Our cities equipment aren’t equipped to deal with this amount of snow “7.5 centimeters before plowing” that has stupid written all over it. Plowing compacted snow requires chains or winter radial tires to efficiently get the job done.
Who is Gaal related to? How much would it cost the city to replace him?
