Shopping Season Safety
Prince George, B.C.- The shopping season is upon us, and with many retailers in Prince George offering “Black Friday” deals, the drive to find the bargains is underway.
This is the season when there are plenty of vehicle break ins, as thieves look to do some of their own version of Christmas shopping. Prince George RCMP remind shoppers to follow a couple of simple safety tips to make sure those purchases make it home with you
- Place your purchases or other valuables in the trunk of your vehicle where they will be out of sight of thieves.
- Park your vehicle in a well lit area,
- Have an alarm system in your vehicle, as thieves don’t want to trigger an alarm system that would draw attention to themselves and their activity
- Always make sure the windows are fully closed and the doors locked.
- When shopping, make sure you protect your pin number and your credit cards.
According to the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team (IMPACT) in B.C. , here are the top ten items stolen from vehicles:
1. Smartphones
2. Personal electronics — tablets, laptops, iPods, GPS units
3. Work tools
4. Credit cards and identification
5. Stereo equipment
6. Cash and change
7. Car parts and accessories
8. Garage door openers
9. Sunglasses
10. Keys
And RCMP say yes, the bait vehicles, filled with bait items will be in position throughout the City.

Wow, what would we do without the local media telling how to shop, stay warm …or remind us to drink water when it’s hot? How about posting something valuable, like explaining to people in PG the difference between a merge, and a yield?
Aww, c’mon, it’s inconvenient to yield in a merge, dontcha know?
People have to be reminded about thefts because half of them don’t think about crinimals and their bad behavior. Just because it’s in your very own vehicle doesn’t mean they can’t have it. So wise up, outa sight, outa mind, the criminal mind. Put a tarp over it, lock things in the trunk. Leave change out for those pesky parking meters? Gonna get gone. Use a little common sense and good judgement.
And yeah, too many people don’t have a clue what a merge and yield mean.
And yielding the right-of-way at a four way stop.
How many times have you had some no mind waive you through when your turning and they’re going straight through.
The Pine Center yield is the worst, the traffic just whips onto the highway instead of ‘merging’. Some idiot is going to take out a family and kill someone at that area.
You mean “yielding” don’t you?
