Motorists Advised to Drive According to Road Conditions
Prince George, B.C. – Yes it is slick on city streets and area highways following the recent arrival of winter-like weather conditions.
Prince George RCMP, Fire Rescue and ambulance crews were called to a two-vehicle crash scene at Ospika and Trader just after 12:30 this afternoon. There were reports of injuries however the ambulance left the scene without lights flashing and siren sounding. The nature and extent of injuries is not yet available.
Damage to the vehicles involved was quite extensive. Police are investigating.
Meantime City crews continue the effort to clean the streets in Prince George following last week’s substantial snowfall. The snow ended at about one o’clock Friday morning with crews having worked through the night to clear Priority 1 and 2 routes. As per the new Snow Clearing Plan, Priority 3 routes, which include residential roads and lanes, secondary Civic Facilities parking lots, park facilities and other parking lots, are to be completely cleared within 72 hours of the completion of Priority 1 and 2 designations.

I’m very impressed with the snow clearing this year! That no joke. It’s much better than last year and venturing through the Hart on Saturday was normal I couldn’t believe it. Sadly accidents are going to happen with slippery sections on all roads and whatever else factored in. Drive safe! Hope everyone is alright.
I will reserve my judgement until we have actually had a couple of decent snowfalls. It isn’t hard to keep up with the amount of snow they have had to deal with so far.
I agree, the snow clearing seems organized this season so far. I hope they keep it up. I feel like even just the fact that they have a clear plan of action set priorities and goals is an improvement. If nothing else, the email updates you can sign up for keep you from wondering if they are even out or not.
Time will tell, but I was impressed this week. The roads still are poor in places because it snowed then immediately dropped to well below freezing. Not much can be done about that except to hopefully keep up with ongoing efforts.
I’m thinking Bill Gaal’s been hamstrung by a certain administration the last few years, and I’m think’in that maybe someone told him to do what he felt was right, and I see the results. And I’m really hoping new Mayor and Council will be guided more by the front line workers and contractors, instead of the others that feel the power a bit too much.
Green is gone! Things have to improve!
We were on a Priority 3 street today and that street was being plowed. We live on a Priority 2 street and it has not been plowed. Is this how the plan is suppose to work?
The one beef I got is that they missed 3 driveways on 1 street with the front end loader. came back did 2 of them, the 3rd the guy did it himself. The guy on the front end loader needs to pay closer attention.
Tip
If there are vehicles parked off the street, chances are its a driveway.
I see there was another accident on 1st Ave this past Saturday. Driver couldn’t see past the massive snowbank running down the center of the road and got smoked while turning.
what is with all the berms of snow that are left in the middle of the road? does this city not have the equipment that goes behind the plows and sucks up the snow (like a vaccuum) and pours it into a dumptruck that is following alongside? one would think that with a city this size and the amount of snow that falls here that this equipment would exist here. not only do these berms impede vision when turning it also shrinks the size of a two lane into a one lane yet there are idiots out there who will squeeze by when there obviously isn’t room for two vehicles – it makes driving alot more stressful and i’m sure increases road rage and accidents. on another note, can’t wait for all the accidents that will happen when out-of-towners arrive for the games, eg: street sign above lights at 4th and victoria STILL says that 4th is a one-way street, and the underpass near pine centre has no stop or yield sign for traffic going to the mall. never mind the games, the real show will be on the roads
Last year I had to plow our roads, this year the city is doing it
And remember,”Keep right except to pass axman’s on your ass”
Cheers
