Winter Weather Leads to Hazardous Road Conditions

Monday, December 1, 2014 @ 1:45 PM

Prince George, B.C. – The recent blast of winter has police reminding motorists to drive to the road conditions. Snowstorm_traffic_plow

“The roads right now of course are snow covered and slippery,” says district operations NCO for North District Traffic Services Pat McTiernan.

“We had the weather event late last week and we’ve had plows out. The roads are somewhat slippery and now we’ve got some snow falling on top of that.”

Even so he says the message still isn’t getting through to some drivers.

“We’re still noticing drivers out there that are travelling above the posted speed limit. If you’re travelling above the posted speed limit in these conditions you can expect to get a ticket.”

McTiernan also reminds drivers to “ensure that their windows are all cleared and that their lights are all cleared so that drivers behind them and ahead of them can see their intentions.”

He says they’ve “had a few vehicles go off the road on the highways,” but says there haven’t been any injuries.

The Prince George RCMP has also been kept busy with the winter weather.

Corporal Craig Douglass says just this weekend alone there were 12 collisions within city limits.

Is this any different from yesterday’s warning?

JohnnyBelt: Yup it’s snowier and slipperier and as always someone doesn’t get the memo…lol

Weather forecast was wrong saying 30 per cent chance of snow for today. That’s what it said late afternoon on Sunday but nope woke up to a completely different forecast Monday morning. Either way how many just read the media article and move on to the next story? Everyone. Ah it’s just snow they say, no big deal.

Just got our streets plowed and driveways cleared for the first time this year. Not bad all things considered. (Spruceland Quinson area)

If they stay on top of the snow clearing and other things, we may not have anything to bitch about this year. Hmmmmmm. Then what do we do.?

Hey, I read that memo. I was out driving today, and I KNOW some folks didn’t read it. Guy went sideways behind me, guess he doesn’t stop at stop signs. Hope he didn’t have to change his shorts…maybe they were too tight……

Don’t blame the road conditions for the terrible driving habits of a majority of drivers within the City of Prince George. Start charging these poor drivers with failing to drive to road conditions. Dawson Road, near my residence, is like a racetrack, with those travelling from the north end of Dawson Road. Does someone have to die before the police will start enforcing the traffic laws. As I have said, numerous times on this site, the human race is great at hindsight but absolutely fails to exercise and foresight.

Visibility is an important factor, I do not understand why drivers are so reluctant to turn on their lights. We all have automatic headlights, but the rear-end lights stay in the dark until you turn them on.
